What slit drip tape is and where it is used
Slit drip tape is a thin, flat tube of low-density polyethylene with small slits cut at regular intervals. When water enters at low pressure the tape fills out and water drips from the slits next to the plant roots. This makes drip tape the simplest and most economical form of drip irrigation for row crops.
It is used mostly for vegetable and summer crops such as tomato, cucumber, watermelon, melon, potato and onion, and also for maize and sugar beet. The tape is laid on the soil or just below the surface along the planting row, and its start is connected to the main or lateral pipe with a drip tape connector.
9, 10 or 11 kg drip tape: what the roll weight means
In the Iranian market drip tape is known by the weight of a 1000 m roll: 9 kg, 9.5 kg, 10 kg, 10.5 kg and 11 kg tape. Because every roll is 1000 m long and 16 mm in diameter, a heavier roll means more material per metre and a thicker wall.
A thicker wall resists tearing when the tape is laid out and rolled up, damage from insects and rodents, and sunlight, and is better suited to use over more than one season. Lighter rolls are more economical for single-season crops and stone-free fields. The 10 kg tape balances durability and cost and is the most popular choice.
Choosing the outlet spacing: 10, 15, 20 or 30 cm
The outlet spacing should match the plant spacing along the row and the soil type. 10 cm spacing suits dense planting and light, sandy soils where water spreads sideways less. 20 cm is the most common choice for most vegetable crops, and 15 and 30 cm are used for other plant spacings and heavier soils.

Installing, filtering and looking after drip tape
Lay the tape with the slits facing up so sediment settling at the bottom does not block the outlets. The slits are very fine, so a suitable filter at the head of the system is needed. At the end of the season open the tape ends and flush the lines to remove sediment and sand.
