What 16 mm irrigation (lateral) pipe is
In a drip irrigation system, water runs from the main pipe (usually PE80 or PE100 polyethylene pipe) into narrower branch pipes laid along the rows of trees or plants. These branch pipes are called laterals and are known in the market as "16 pipe" and "20 pipe".
Lateral pipe is made of low-density polyethylene (LDPE). It is soft and flexible, easy to lay out and roll up, and is used in orchards, vineyards, urban landscaping, gardens and greenhouses. Drippers are fitted along it at the spacing you need by punching a hole in the pipe wall.
16 mm or 20 mm pipe?
16 mm is the most common lateral size and is enough for rows of normal length with a moderate number of drippers. 20 mm carries more water with less pressure loss and is the better choice for longer rows, many drippers or higher flows.

Jointing, installation and supply
Lateral pipe is joined with lateral fittings such as couplings, tees, elbows and end plugs and needs no welding machine. The start of the line connects to the main pipe with a connector or valve, and the end can be opened to flush the line.
