What a double-flanged butterfly valve is
Like other butterfly valves, a double-flanged butterfly valve opens and closes by turning a round disc on a shaft; the difference is that both ends of the body carry a full flange, and each end is bolted to the line flange on its own. This suits large-diameter mains, where the valve has to sit firmly and independently in the line.
The body is ductile iron, and EN 593 is the standard for metallic butterfly valves. The valve is used on drinking-water mains, irrigation networks and industrial plants.
Gearbox or actuator, and connecting to PE pipe
In large sizes the disc cannot be turned by hand directly, so the double-flanged butterfly valve is supplied with a manual gearbox or with an actuator. The gearbox makes operation smooth and controlled, and an actuator allows automatic or remote operation. State the type you need in your inquiry.
To connect the valve to a polyethylene line, each end uses a stub end fused to the pipe and a metal backing ring. Steel and ductile-iron backing rings are listed on this site.
